The restoration of handmade rugs is a trade passed down from generation to generation, by understanding the weaving, and knotting techniques used when producing the piece is crucial in proper execution of the repair. As with any type of restoration, to properly execute, it must be done in the same fashion as it was created originally. Handmade rugs must be restored by hand and each rug is unique in its color palette, texture and design. At Agra we have all the aforementioned skills to restore any piece that needs some love and attention. From basic bindings on the fringe end of a rug, to re-piling missing sections of wool knots, (as common in moth damage) to a complete reweave of a section that is missing.... Any handmade rug can be repaired given enough time, care, and expertise.
If you have a piece that requires this type of attention, we would be delighted to assist and provide you the highest quality craftsmanship available. Given the in depth nature of such, all repairs are case by case and can be evaluated in person and oftentimes via pictures and consultation.

During the wet months of the year (Spring/summer) we experience Carpet beetles and moths that can infest a rug and do considerable damage very quickly, (within days to weeks). These pests do not like light, noise or vibrations, so they tend to get into rugs that are being stored or are primarily under furniture that doesn't get moved or vacuumed routinely. The moths/beetles lay larvae, hatch and begin to feast on the wool, removing portions of the pile in the process. They leave a residue that looks similar to a spider's web along the back of the rug
In the event of an infestation. We can remove the infestation with our cleaning process as well as repair any damage to your rug. The final step is to prevent future infestations. We provide a Moth proofing all natural process that helps to prevent future issues.
Pads are important for all area rugs as it provides an extra level of protection against wear. Rugs wear from the backside or knotted side. Walking on them creates friction against the hard surface they lay on (Tile, hardwood/laminate), which in turn wears the knot as opposed to the pile side, (face of rug). A high quality pad prevents this wear, adds cushion and comfort as well as a moisture barrier in the case of flood/water damage within a home. Our padding is the highest quality and is guaranteed by the manufacturer Not to damage any flooring in any circumstance.

Benefits, a 2 part padding, the hexagonal pattern made out of latex, allows for pad to grip the surface of your hard floors, and prevents the padding from sticking to floors ensuring it won't damage the flooring during use. The upper part (fiber composite portion, the backside of rug(s) rest on this portion) acts as a type of velcro as the rug settles on padding. Padding is appx 1/4" thick providing cushion, but unnoticeable change in elevation.
